Who We Were....

The I.C.P.F. was a group of dedicated individuals and parishioners from the
Immaculate Conception Church who vowed to save their church from demolition.

Inspired by Olivia Mausel from the Holyoke Historical Commission, our group was
founded in March of 2004.

Mausel tried every way to convince the parish to save their beautiful edifice.  With no
luck, it was recommended to the former bishop, Bishop Thomas Dupre by Father
James Aherne, pastor of the IC and the Parish Council to demolish the existing church
and build a smaller more economical church building to hold about 350-400 people.
This recommendation was accepted by Dupre.

With the new bishop in place, we were hopeful that the previous recommendation
would be reconsidered, providing an opportunity to rescue the church from destruction.

In 2006, after a long battle, our cause came to an end.  The churches organist and
leader of the I.C.P.F. was arrested and charged with trespassing on church property
and demolition began shortly after.

The Immaculate Conception Preservation Fund wishes to thank everyone for all the
work they have done in attempt to preserve this architectural gem!

Please enjoy the following pages of beauty, which contain pictures of the interior and
exterior of the church.  All pictures are actual works of art concealed either on or in the
IC Church.

A special thanks to Olivia, Tom, Ernie, Greg,  Jeff, Denise, Marie,
Bob, Barbara, Bill, Lillian, Jack, Dick, John and wife, and Steve.
You're hard work and support will always be remembered!
